Adam and I have to be at the hospital at 7AM on Tuesday June 10!

I still think that he will be born in the next couple of days...but I've been WAY off on the vibe thing that I have with this pregnancy so we will see.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Review (NON SPOILERS)

The movie is good. If you are an Indy fan you will like it. My bladder survived and I didn't go into labor. I promised Adam that if my water broke during the movie that Teresa would take me to the hospital.

The movie can be a little slow in some spots but it does pick back up.

They do give an indication that there could be another movie. Maybe with not Indy as the central character (which was mentioned by Uncle George at Cannes) but I don't think that the fans (or Harrison Ford) would be happy with someone else having the adventures and Indy being the support.

Go in with knowing that you can turn your mind off for 2 hours and 4 mintues and just have fun.

Helicopter over our neighborhood

So about 6:15 I heard a helicopter. Didn't think much of it...until it was hanging around our house for about five minutes. So I went out to see what was going on. It was a channel 5 helicopter just hanging around our neighborhood. I read (on another tv station website) that there was an accident over Macaroni Grill in Grapevine. An 18-wheeler crashed into 4 cars there.

As a Star Wars loving soul, should I be happy or disturbed by my daughter in Vader garb. Granted it was my idea... but that's beside the point. Now every time she sees the Vader mask she points, says "hat", and insists on putting it on.

Guess we'll have to find a Han Solo vest or a Wookie mask for the boy, once he's born.

My Dad finished up the mural in the new baby's room. It's a yellow submarine! I think it came out really well. It's hard to see the size in this picture, but it's as long as the crib which it is painted over.

Oh, and the room is entirely blue.

Hiccups

If you look to the right hand part of the screen and wait a couple of seconds you will see a little blip. That is the alien child having the hiccups.

He is also grounded because he gave me a swift kick in the ribs today before we started eating. I guess I wasn't fast enough putting cheesy bread in my mouth.

So about 15 minutes after I ate lunch Bubba was really moving around. I decided to film it and then he stopped (typical). But I did catch him doing this.....

Well about 3AM there were storms....At least that's what the news and what Adam told me this morning.

I didn't wake up to any of the storms at all. Adam said that we didn't get much but what we did get scared Connor half to death.

27 weeks and a couple of days pregnant

I realized on Friday that I am really big....




I know I probably don't look that big but I am ALL BELLY!!! This kid is going to be huge! Which doesn't surpised me since all he wants for lunch is tacos.

Oh and Katie got a sandbox today that is staying over at Papa and MawMa's. That is the real reason why we were taking pictures today.

Program Rescheduled AGAIN!!!

Katie's program at the school will now be on Thursday March 27 at 7PM.

Due to the weather it looks like the program that Katie is in has been rescheduled to NEXT Thursday at 7:00.

This is our yard at 12:23. Oh and the temp is not supposed to get below 33 degrees. I'm not all that worried. I'm sure Katie will have school tomorrow.



The weather people are all over this. I've seen snow before. LOTS of snow before. Lets get on to other news.

In other news....

Katie's school is doing an performance tonight. Expect to see picutres and videos of toddlers screaming, crying, rocking their stuffed animals, and hopefully one (NOT) stripping down to her diaper and running around in a circle (Yeah...that would be my kid)

Specialist Appointment

This is what we know....

I'm at 25 weeks 4 days. Randal (Bubba) weighs 2 POUNDS right now (average is about 1.5 pounds about now).

Everything looks good.

The calcifications in the heart are still there but you can barely see them. (the reason why they were mentioned the first time was because of my age).

The Dr was at the hospital doing surgery so the sono tech told us that they would like us to come back in 4 weeks. Might get a call from the office telling us not to. Because I tested positive for the blood test for downs (and the MINOR marker of the calcifications) they want to check on the growth.

The due date that they say he may arrive is at 6/10/08 BUT I'm still going by the date of 6/14/08. We will see when June rolls around.

One day I'll have a cellphone that can take really good pictures. Trust me, snow was a very pretty white. Since our yard lacks trees, we got quite a nice snow covering.

By the time I got to work most the snow had melted from the grassy areas... I imagine it was the same at home. Pity, it looked very neat.

It's a girl...with BIG FEET

Sick.....

Last week due to stuff going on and then Katie getting pinkeye and an ear infection Katie didn't see much of Grandma and "pa pa". Well since Sunday Katie has seen them every day and today is no exception.

Because I am sick. I've been taking care of the other two sick memebers of the family and some type of germ has gotten into my system. And because I am PREGNANT Dr's won't give me anything. So after having almost a week of crying, coughing, sneezing, screaming, banging on the wall, banging on the door, meowing, hissing, furrball puking, wind blowing interrupted sleep my body finally said "ENOUGH" and made me sick this morning.

So today at 1:45 Katie will be going over to visit "Pa pa". I on the other hand will be going home to take some anti-nausia pills that make me sleep and go to bed. Hopefully with tomorrow being a school day for Katie things will be back to normal...or as normal as our family gets.

For Sicker...

I'd just like to say that of the experiences I've had in life, hearing the doctor say, "you've got a double ear infection, sinus infection, throat infection, and a touch of bronchitis," is one I would like a substitution for. Say replace it with a very nice sunset or just a night of actual restful sleep. Granted hearing that I'm infected to the gills was a bit better that living with the aftermath of the shot they injected into my butt.

I saw a glimmer in my wife's eyes when the doc mentioned the shot. I'd like to think it was because, having gone through it herself during the week of our big Star Wars Wedding, she knew it would make me all better. I suspect though that she was chuckling to herself in full knowledge of the special kind of hell I was about to go through, that I'm sure I didn't sympathize enough with her when she went through it. That's just a guess.

The first night after getting the shot was filled with strange pains that I cannot satisfactorily describe in words, so I won't.

The shot did what it claimed to and here a few days after taking it I can move around like a pretend human. It is a fake healthy though. The head still buzzes with the infection still lurking underneath. That'll take longer to knock out with ghastly antibiotic pills with a dry horror of an aftertaste.

Still haven't gotten a good night's rest yet, and I'm not optimistic about the near future. To sum it all up... being sick really sucks. I'd rather just be well, please.

PS: Another way to some it up: don't kiss icky germ covered, snot spewing toddlers... even if they look at you with big puppy dog eyes... reaching up at you saying "hug hug hug."

We went to the Dr and she now is taking drops for it. I know it looks bad. She was worse at 3AM when her eyes were basically swollen shut.

Just found out today that one of my bestest friends ever is engaged!

Also today is my sister's birthday, so hooray for her too.

Thought I'd throw that out there so we can all remember the good times!

Read a Book

I'm rather happy with myself today. I finished a really large book over the weekend, A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin. I wrote a blurb about it on my blog.

It is a very long book, and with the little time I have to read (or the desire to read it) it took a while. I actually check it out from the library about 5 months ago. The sad thing is it is the first book of a series and each book is just about as long. This is going to keep me busy for a while, but some other books will have to come first.

New Due Date

Also forgot to add yesterday that it looks like the date has changed for the due date again. On the computer for the specialist it had 6/13 and 6/14. So I decided to have it be at 6/13. But just incase just mark your calendars for a 3 day weekend!

Specialist Appointment 1/17/08

So this is what happened this morning.

We got there for our appointment at 8 and I filled out paperwork. I was told that since we are seeing the genetic councilor that they would have to call my OB to get the results of the quad screen test. About 20 minutes later I was told that my OB was on the phone and wanted to talk to me. She wanted to let me know that my quad screen came back positive for Downs Syndrome. Which I was not surprised (I hate this blood test anyway it gives a lot of false positives). It came back positive for Katie when I was pregnant with her. So with my age it's at 151. Now with the positive it is now 145. I'm still not worried. We FINALLY got to see the councilor at about 9:20 (so much for 8) and she went through everything. I basically told her that unless the Dr said that we really should have an amino then I will have one but I wasn't going to risk it.

So we have the sono and it is still a BOY (confirmed by the tech and by the specialist). The specialist then told us that there are some calcifications in the heart. This is a MINOR marker for Downs Syndrome and it doesn't mean that he will have it. She checked him all over and besides that everything looks fine. She told me that now my chances of him having this is 1 and 70. She told me that if I wanted to could have an amino.

Adam and I have talked about this even before Katie was born. Knowing that something COULD be wrong is NOT going to change anything with our love for this kid. He could have 2 heads, 4 arms, 6 legs and have a green skin and I would still love the little guy. So we are NOT going to have an amino. (besides why risk it when I've had a miscarriage in the past)

We do have to go and see the specialist again 26-28 weeks and we got an appointment scheduled on March 5 at 1:15. She also mentioned about maybe coming back at 34-36 to check on it again. They will be checking everything again and check the heart again to see if there are any more calcifications.

So please continue to send vibes and prayers for this little guy.

Dan Fogelberg 1951-2007

I will admit I'm not up to speed with the new music of today. I guess I'm getting old and I don't want to hear someone screaming at me, how to get back at someone who cheats, or how some guy should be with me and not their girlfriend. So I listen to an oldies station. It's also one of the few things that "The Spud" and I can agree on when we are in the car (besides "The Lion Sleeps Tonight").

There are few songs that I can say where the lyrics made me stop and say "Whoa. That was cool!"

Dan Fogelberg did that with "Same auld lang syne" A true story about him running into his ex-girlfriend at a store Christmas Eve. They play the song a lot on New Years Eve.

Even with my ADD and Pregger brain I still remember where I was when I first heard that song. It was November 1981 and I was reading "the splinter of the minds eye" (one of the first Star Wars books) and this song came on. I was living in Liverpool, New York. The song stuck with me all these years.

In 2004 he announced that he was diagnosed with advanced prostrate cancer.

Monday morning at 7:00 our alarm went off and Jodi Dean was playing one of Dan's songs. I knew that something happened. I turned on Good Morning America and the ticker at the bottom said it all. Dan Fogelberg died Sunday morning at the age of 56.

On the way home from taking Katie to Mom's Day out Monday morning Jodi signed off saying "Thank you Dan" playing "Same Auld Lang Syne" I blasted it in my car and cried. Yeah I'm old...and I really don't care.

Thank you for the music Dan you will be missed.

Bridget and I ran across this Vader candy thingie while looking for Christmas gifts at Target. Doesn't it look like he has a runny nose? Anyway we spent all that time at Target and left with only a set of sippy cups for Katie.

I was just looking at the calendar, and we really need to get the Christmas shopping done. Santa's big day is right around the corner and there is still so much to do. Not that we can buy much being the poor parents that we are... but then limitations breed creativity.

It'll be a great Christmas, you just wait and see!

My brother-in-law and family came down a couple weeks ago. We had a great time! Lots of good food and fun.

Dancing with the Stars

Okay tonight is the finals for Dancing with the stars.

Do not be surpised if Marie Osmond wins.

Not because of her dancing skills (Which she did very well last week and I think she should have gotten a 10 from Bruno) but because of her fanbase.

Now before all the Marie fans start getting mad a me let me add I AM A FAN OF MARIE'S! I have been a fan since the Donny and Marie Show. I think I also still have a Marie doll from 1978 somewhere. I was actually excited that she was going to be on the show. BUT....

I really don't think that she will win. If she does it will because of the FANS VOTES which is FINE BY ME.

Who do I think will win? Either Mel B or Helio. It's too close to call.

This show is about the votes. If you vote fine if you don't then you have NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN IF YOUR FAVORATE LOSES!

I will not be voting because I will be at a class and watching the show at about 10 tonight.

You will not see me complaining tomorrow after the results show because I have no right to complain.

One Year Ago Yesterday

One year ago yesterday at 5:00PM I became a full time Mom.

The year has gone fast with Gymboree, swim class, swinging, crawling, walking, talking and Mom's day out. Next spring she will be going to preschool over at the church one day a week on Friday's and then in the fall she will be going every Wednesday and Friday.

But next year we all have a new challenge....Because Adam and I are going to be parents again and Katie will be a big sister. The baby is due Sunday June 15, 2008.

We have known for a couple of weeks but didn't tell anyone except for some people. Tuesday Adam and I went for the first sono. I should have known that everything was going to be okay when I heard "You have to hide your love away" and "When I'm sixty-four" (our song) both by the Beatles within minutes of each other. (a sign from my Mom). We went and saw our 8 week 2 day bean with the heartbeat pumping away.



We have a new baby site that we'll post on our list of things to go to. I couldn't go back to Postcards from the Pregnancy.

We went over to my parent's house last night so Katie could have some Grandma time. My Mom ordered Jim Sticks from Mr. Jim's Pizza and we all gorged on the carbs. Yum!

Afterward Katie ran wild around the house. Luckily for Bridget and I, Grandma was there to tend the inevitable poopy diaper. All the fun had to come to an end before 8, so my wife could get home in time to watch Grey's Anatomy.

Last Friday I walked next door to the Euless Public Library (I work at Euless City Hall). The Euless Library Foundation (ELF) was holding their bi-annual book sale. Now the last thing I need at the house is more books for me. I've already decided to read books from the library whenever possible to avoid putting more on the shelves at home.

My daughter on the other hand could use some more. These board books will do nicely, and at a cost of 30 cents for all three... she can destroy them for all I care. She's already had plenty of fun with them. I can't get over how fascinated she is with turning pages.

We will never forget......

I tried to find something that didn't repeat what happened on this day six years ago. I found this.

Yes, I am a smart alec!

We had storms today. I was at the computer when I heard thunder and the lights went out. After finding a flashlight (and noting to myself that we needed better ones) I called TXU and got an ACTUAL person to talk to (probably living in Florida for all we know).

She asked the usual questions. Then she asked the following:

TXU: Did you hear anything before the lights went out?

Me: Thunder.

I know I know I am a smart alec! I also know that she is in control of the paperwork for my reporting the lights being out and could suddenly LOSE the paperwork and we could never get out electricity back on again but I just couldn't help it.

Music teachers dream....or worst nightmare.....

Katie was at Gymboree last Wednesday and she decided to let everyone know that she knows the Gymbo song and what to do....



On Sunday Katie took 10 steps by herself (with Dad behind her). We didn't get it on film but we will next time.

Last week (as reported on It's all about Me!!!!) Katie said "BYE BYE DA-DA!!!" before Adam went to work.

She loves pancakes. Her favorate food is still Blueberry Buckle.

For the first time it hasn't rained in about 3 days!!!!

Saw the new Harry Potter movie. Very good.

Miss You.....

It's been eight years since my Mom died. It doesn't seem that long ago. She would want us to celebrate her life. So today Adam, Katie and I are going to Fort Worth to see the Star Wars exhibit. There isn't a day that I don't think of her. The past month or so I really thought about her and talked to her a lot. I've always said that it is up to Mom (and God) on what goes on with my life. I've always believed that Mom had more say than God and would know that what ever happened that I would be able to get through it.

Mom's favorite group was The Beatles and favorite Beatle was Paul McCartney.
When I hear this song I will always remember seeing Paul McCartney at Texas Stadium and her saying "Oh he is SO CUTE!!!"


I think Mom saw Neil Diamond 4 or five times (I saw him twice with her). I just remember the first time she got to see them Dad left early in the morning to get in line tickets for her.


The Muppet Show....This was a favorite of hers.


I think this was years later when they tried to do another Muppet show like show. I know she would have loved this...



She was the one who got us into Star Wars. She was also the one who became really good friends at the people over at Toys R Us. She would go over and was the only one allowed to go back and go through all the boxes (before they we out on the shelves) and get the figures that my brother needed before everyone else. Yoda was her favorite...


One Saturday morning I was watching the Bugs Bunny Road Runner show and "What's Opera Doc?" came on. Mom laughed so hard at this.


Another favorite musician was John Denver. She got to see him in concert two weeks before he died.



About a week ago I found footage on Youtube from John Denver and the Muppets a Christmas together. I found one of Mom's favorite songs that I was planning on having here in the tribute. I sang the song at her funeral service. Sadly when I went to get it for this yesterday the video had been removed....

Went to see Live Free or Die Hard on Friday night. I've always liked the Die Hard movies. I wanted to see a movie that doesn't require a brain. This is the one to see. That is NOT an insult to the movie. I loved it and I want to see it again.

It took a couple of minutes to forget that the kid that he is trying to protect is the guy from the "I'm a mac" commercials. Kevin Smith is hysterical being the warlock and getting mad at his friend for taking a cop to his "Command Center"...The Command Center is his Mom's basement.

Go see this movie NOW!!!!

Woo Hoo!!

Okay almost everyone who knows me knows that I LOVE Harrison Ford. Adam sent me this picture and I started to "giggle like a school girl"




It's the first time since 1989 that he had that outfit on! The New Indiana Jones film will be out May 22, 2008. I know that I said after seeing Revenge of the Sith that I would NEVER do another midnight showing again...I might have to this time.

Okay this is going in the "strange things that happened to us today because it is US"

I had three of these things stuck on me. One on each shoulder. Tonight while I was talking to Adam I went to scratch the left side of my back. I said "what the--" and PULLED this off of me. This was on me ALL DAY and probably would have been on me all night if I didn't find it. We thought it was pretty funny.

Just wanted to let you all know that I am home...We'll at the in laws (since they are in Hawaii and our house is a disaster). Today was almost a continuation of the circus that we have had the past couple of days. We were told to go to admissions and they are CLOSED on Saturday. So we had to go through the ER to register. I bit my tongue when someone at the ER desk said "A D&C is NOT surgery" from saying something rude, uncalled for and something that they would feel REALLY REALLY BAD. Then found out that the orders said only D&C and didn't explain why. So Adam had to tell the nurse (who was getting my history and I couldn't respond) on why I was having one. She felt SO bad about that. I told Adam to tell the Dr about that not being on the order.

Drugs are great. They put the shot in the IV and told me that it would take a couple of seconds. 3 seconds later (and he only put HALF in) I was saying "um...they are working" Adam told me goodbye as they were putting the rest in. I remember closing my eyes to blink and don't even remember seeing him leave I was out.

When I woke up they asked me what I wanted anything "Coke" is what I groaned...(Yes I have a caffeine addiction). They released me about 1:30 and I am awake and kind of alert (almost normal...well as normal as I can get). I have to see the Dr in two weeks.

Phone Call

About four hours ago I got a phone call from the Dr. I was surprised that she called me from her cell phone but I was also happy that she took the time to do it. She told me how sorry she was about the communication between her staff and I. She told me that she was expecting to see me tomorrow at 7 and thought everything was set up. She was shocked to hear that I didn't know until almost the end of the day. "This person will be written up for this and if she does this again she will be fired" That is something that I think is very rare for a Dr to tell a patient but I could tell that she was very frustrated.

This is a drastic change from yesterday where I was wondering if I should use this Dr for the next time I get pregnant. I felt like I was being pushed aside and I had never been treated like that before from her. Family members thought it was very strange for me to be treated this way by the Dr. Adam was right and said you never know if she is even getting the messages or if she even knows what is going on.

As I keep on telling everyone Communication is the KEY and don't assume I know what is going on. My force abilities for mind reading isn't that strong!

WE ARE ON FOR TOMORROW

Okay tomorrow at 7am Adam and I have to be at the hospital. Since this is probably going to take most of the day (pre-op, operation, recovery) someone will probably post something tomorrow night. OUR CELL PHONES WILL BE OFF! PLEASE DO NOT CALL AND CHECK ON US. We love you all but we want to get this done and make sure everything is okay before we start contacting people.

Katie will be staying tonight with Grandma and Grandpa. Tomorrow at about 8AM Nana Teresa will be going over to their house to watch Katie. It will be easier to have her there so we won't have to rush around tomorrow morning.

We'll be okay. I keep telling myself that we will be okay. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, thoughts and vibes.

Questions Part 2

This is what we know now....

I'm expecting a phone call tomorrow from the Drs office or the hospital about surgery on Saturday. They have to get permission to have this done and the person there was not at the office. So sometime tomorrow we will know when it is (hopefully) going to be. Teresa will be watching Katie.

There were some bumps in the road today. It wasn't pretty and I was pretty upset. When a nurse asks "what seems to be the problem" I have a problem with that. Adam was about to call them and see what he could do.

So until tomorrow.

Questions

To answer everyones questions:

No I haven't gotten a call yet.

Yes I called the Dr at 2:45 and left a message for someone to call me. I stressed the fact that I was tired of waiting and I needed to know so I could have someone watch my child.

Since it is 4:30 I really do not think that this will happen tomorrow. Unless there was a total mix up which I doubt.

We are hanging in there. My break down was this morning (see "it's not fair" post on Postcards from the Pregnancy). Adam lasted an hour at work and couldn't take everyone coming in and saying "I'm so sorry"

We went to Gymboree and Katie played with Izzy. They also sang Happy Birthday to her.

Katie got her gift from Grandpa Keenan that will be used to get her new car seat after we have dinner with Nana Teresa.

I got flowers from my Dad and Bonnie. They are very nice.

Once again thanks for the thoughts, prayers and vibes for the next couple of days.

Good Day Dallas

Make sure to watch Good Day Dallas on Channel 4 tomorrow morning. They do birthdays and hopefully you'll see Katie's picture on there!

Sono (Not good news)

There isn't a good way to tell everyone this so here it goes.

Went to the OB for my appointment and a sono. Adam came with me for the appointment. The sono showed the baby but there wasn't a heartbeat. I knew something was wrong when I was asked "do not breathe" then I was asked "have you had any spotting?" she checked several times (and asked me several times not to breathe). She told me that she couldn't find a heartbeat. The whole time I'm praying to Mom (because she has more pull than God) to have everything be okay. Then the tech said "I'm sorry"

My Dr was out on call so I saw another Dr from the group. I was told my options. I will be going in for a D&C either Thursday or Friday. Tomorrow is Katie's first birthday I was NOT going to have that done on her birthday.

I knew that something was wrong sometime last week when I woke up and didn't feel like a truck ran over me or sick to my stomach until 1:00. I told myself that I was overreacting and not to be this paranoid. I wasn't this paranoid when I was with Katie and she was fine.

I'm hanging in there but I know that I'll have a breakdown soon. I've called family members and told them. Most of them said the same thing. Better it to happen now then later. I'm just thankful that Adam was there with me when I found out. So I'll leave it up to my Mom (because again...she has more pull than God) and we'll go down this road that she wants us to do.
